Donating a car in the St. Louis Metro should be simple: you tell us where the vehicle sits, we send a local tow truck, and you never pay a pickup fee. With Rev Up Local, free really means $0 to you. Whether your car is parked on a tight South City street in Tower Grove East, in a driveway in Ballwin or Florissant, or on a lot out near Wentzville, we come to the vehicle, not the other way around.
Here’s how it works in St. Louis: you call or submit our online form, confirm your pickup address and a convenient time window, and we match you with a nearby flatbed or hook-and-chain partner. On pickup day, you leave the signed Missouri title and keys in the vehicle or hand them to the driver. Running or not, we’ll tow it at no cost to you, paid from the eventual sale proceeds that support Heritage for the Blind. In most of the St. Louis Metro, a truck can arrive within a few business days, with rural addresses sometimes taking a bit longer for routing.
How to schedule your free local pickup
1. Tell us where in St. Louis your car is
Call Rev Up Local or complete the quick online form with your contact info, vehicle details, and exact pickup address anywhere in the St. Louis Metro—from Downtown or Soulard to Chesterfield, St. Peters, or Belleville. Let us know whether the car runs, where it’s parked, and any access issues. This helps us match you to the right local tow partner and estimate timing for your free pickup.
2. Choose a convenient pickup window
After we review your information, we contact you to confirm a pickup day and a time window. In most of the metro—city neighborhoods like Shaw or The Hill, and inner suburbs like Maplewood or University City—pickups are usually scheduled within a few business days. If you’re farther out toward rural Missouri, we’ll still come to you, but we may offer the earliest window that fits route planning.
3. Prepare your Missouri title and keys
Before pickup day, locate your Missouri title and make sure it’s signed according to state requirements for transfer. Remove your personal belongings, garage clickers, and license plates if you plan to keep them. Put the keys and title together in a safe place so you can either hand them to the driver or leave them in the agreed spot inside the vehicle.
4. Park the vehicle where the tow can reach it
Make sure your car is parked in a spot a flatbed can access—ideally a driveway, lot, or street space without low overhangs or tight alley turns. In dense areas like Central West End or Benton Park, tell us about narrow streets, permit parking, or loading zones. In suburban neighborhoods, confirm there’s room in front of the home for the tow truck to safely hook up or load the vehicle.
5. Leave the title and keys, and we handle the rest
On pickup day, you don’t always need to be home. If we’ve arranged it in advance, you can leave the title and keys in the vehicle (for example, in the glove box or under the floor mat) and unlock the car. The driver will tow it away at no cost to you, and you’ll later receive a tax receipt—typically for at least $500, with amounts over $500 reported on IRS Form 1098-C.
6. Receive your tax receipt and feel good about it
Once your donated vehicle is sold, proceeds support Heritage for the Blind’s programs for people who are blind or visually impaired. You’ll receive an acknowledgment and tax receipt by mail. Keep it with your records for tax time. There’s no towing bill, no hidden fees, and no follow-up costs—the entire pickup is covered by the charity’s share of the sale, not by you.
Local pickup gotchas
Tight city streets and alleys in St. Louis
Tip: Areas like Soulard, Lafayette Square, and narrow South City alleys can be tricky for flatbeds. Let us know if your car is in an alley, behind a building, or on a one-way. We may ask you to move it to a more accessible curb or lot so the truck can load safely and avoid rescheduling.
Gated communities, garage codes, and overnight lots
Tip: If your vehicle is in a secured garage, gated complex, or managed lot (common in Central West End, Clayton, or Downtown), share gate codes, entry instructions, or contact info for building/lot management. Without access details, drivers may be unable to reach the car and will need to reschedule your pickup.
Very rural addresses and long drive times
Tip: If you’re outside the core St. Louis Metro—toward Farmington, Washington, or rural counties—tow routes are less frequent. We still cover you at $0, but scheduling can take a bit longer. Sharing flexible days and clear directions (landmarks, driveway notes) helps us coordinate a driver in fewer trips.
Permit or HOA parking rules in suburbs
Tip: Some neighborhoods in places like O’Fallon, Ballwin, and St. Charles have HOA rules or permit-only street parking. Check whether a tow truck can operate there and if your vehicle can temporarily be placed somewhere accessible. Clearing those details first helps avoid last-minute cancellations or tickets during pickup.
If at-home pickup is tricky
If at-home pickup is complicated—maybe your car is buried in a tight alley, stuck in a multi-level garage, or your HOA won’t allow tow trucks at certain hours—Rev Up Local can still work with you. In some cases, we can meet you at a nearby open lot, workplace, or public street where a flatbed can safely load, such as a grocery parking lot in Kirkwood or a park-and-ride near the highway. We’ll talk through your exact situation, suggest the easiest nearby spot, and coordinate a time window that fits both you and our St. Louis towing partner.
St. Louis pickup coverage
Rev Up Local serves the full St. Louis Metro: city neighborhoods like Dogtown, Carondelet, and Old North; inner suburbs like Brentwood, Webster Groves, and Ferguson; and farther out to areas like Arnold, St. Charles, and Edwardsville. Most metro pickups happen within a few business days, while outlying Missouri addresses may need extra routing time. For Missouri donations, you’ll sign your MO title to transfer ownership; typically, you remove your plates before pickup and handle any cancellation with the Missouri DOR. We’ll guide you on the basic steps, though we don’t provide legal or tax advice.
